V.A. INFORMATION

Post-9/11 GI Bill education benefits are available to all eligible U.S. Military Veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits and Services.  The VA has indicated it typically takes them 30 days to process benefits claims.  Only the VA can determine if you are eligible for education benefits.

To obtain information about your education benefits eligibility go to: www.benefits.va.gov.

To apply for education benefits online go to: www.vets.gov

OR

To apply for education benefits via mail, download and complete: VA Form 22-1990 (Application for VA Education Benefits) and mail it to the VA.  All instructions and address information are included with this form.  (If you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser, this form can conveniently be filled in before printing.)

For specific GI Bill questions or to receive a VA Form 22-1990 by mail, please contact the VA at 1-888-442-4551.

If you need to request a copy of your DD 214 - Certificate of Release or Discharge, you can do so online, by mail or by FAX here:  Military Service Records Request.  It is not necessary to have a copy of your DD 214 in-hand when initially applying for education benefits, however this document does need to be provided to the VA to assist them in determining your eligibility for education benefits.  Therefore, it is suggested you initiate the process of obtaining your DD 214 sooner than later to ensure your benefit approval does not get delayed.
